East-bound Colorado 58 is shut down this afternoon after a speeding beer truck tipped on its side.

Reports of the roll over near McIntyre and Interstate 70, came in around noon, said Wheat Ridge Police spokeswoman Lisa Spinder. Officials are estimating it will take four hours to clear the accident. Drivers are advised to avoid the area or use side roads to reach their destination.

The truck, operated by a subcontractor, was hauling beer from the Coors Brewery in Golden. The cargo did not spill.

Workers will need to unload the tipped over truck by hand into another vehicle, Spinder said. The clean up time will depend on how fast another truck can be located and how large of a load the tipped truck was carrying.

“Truckers don’t pay enough attention to the speed recommendation,” she said. “Twenty means 20.

“This happens all the time. We’ve had keystone cans spill all over the place and have had port-a-potty rigs roll over.”

Drivers are also cautioned I-70 may back up as a result of the accident.
