GENESSEE, Colo.—Authorities say a deck collapsed during a barbecue at a Colorado home, injuring a dozen people, including two who were taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
Jefferson County sheriff’s spokesman Mark Techmeyer says the second-floor deck collapsed without warning at about 4 p.m. in Genessee.
He tells the Denver Post ( ) the deck dropped 18 feet with about 25 adults on it. The injured were all taken to local hospitals.
Techmeyer described the structure as somewhat “aged” and said an inspector told him it was “not up to today’s standards.”
The Post reports that the house was built in the late 1970s.
