Travelers flying East from Denver today should check with their airline before heading to the airport.
As of 9 a.m., Denver International Airport is reporting 54 cancellations — 34 of which are departures — due to weather conditions from Hurricane Irene. Three airports are closing ahead of the storm and a handful of others are keeping a close watch on the storm.
John F. Kennedy International, LaGuardia and Newark Liberty International are ceasing operations at 10 a.m. this morning. Regan Nation, Dulles International, Baltimore/Washington International, Boston Logan International and Philadelphia International, are all operating as usual but will monitor the weather closely.
In Denver, DIA staff are not anticipating a large number of travelers spending the night at the airport and is not planning on making cots, blankets or pillows available to passengers, spokesman Jeff Green said in a statement.
There is no need to arrive extra early for flights leaving DIA today.
