COPLEY, Ohio — An Ohio woman says she tried to hide an 11-year-old boy from a gunman who fatally shot him and six other people before being killed by police.
Melonie Bagley told the Akron Beacon Journal newspaper and WEWS-TV she didn’t know the boy who ran to her home yelling for help Aug. 7 outside Akron.
She said she hid Scott Dieter with three of her kids in her basement, but gunman Michael Hance forced his way in, found the boy and shot him.
She said she led her children up the stairs away from Hance but that her 9-year-old son stayed with the young stranger to try to help him.
