ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas slugger Nelson Cruz is expected to miss about three weeks with a hamstring injury.

The AL West-leading Rangers said an MRI on Monday revealed a grade 1 strain of Cruz’s left hamstring. The right fielder will get an injection from team physician Keith Meister that is intended to stimulate the healing process.

Cruz, who is hitting .270 with a team- leading 28 home runs and 84 RBIs, got hurt while running out a double in Sunday night’s 9-5 victory over the Angels.

Yanks’ Rodriguez sent home for MRI

BALTIMORE — Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez returned to New York to have an MRI on his left thumb, and the result “came out good,” according to manager Joe Girardi.

Rodriguez is poised to meet the Yankees in Boston today for the start of a three-game series.

“He’s day to day,” Girardi said. “I don’t know if he’ll be able to play (today). His thumb, we got to let it heal, so I can’t tell you exactly when he’s going to be back. It’s just when he feels better.”

Shortstop Derek Jeter (knee) is also day to day.

Footnotes.

Dodgers right fielder Andre Ethier was back in the lineup a day after being held out because of a sore right knee that will require surgery, but apparently not until after the season.

• Slumping White Sox designated hitter Adam Dunn was told by manager Ozzie Guillen his playing time will be cut with the call-up of Dayan Viciedo.

• Indians infielder Jason Donald (finger) is day to day.
