HAMPTON, Ga. — NASCAR postponed its Sprint Cup race Sunday at Atlanta Motor Speedway because of heavy rain.

The AdvoCare 500 will be held at 9 a.m. MDT on Tuesday. Any hopes of running the race Sunday night ended when another line of showers moved through the area about 9:30 p.m. local time — two hours after the scheduled start, and just as crews were finishing up their effort to get the track dry for a late-night start.

NASCAR says there’s no chance to get the race in today. The forecast calls for 4 to 5 inches of rain and possibly severe weather as remnants of Tropical Storm Lee move through the Atlanta area.

Cruz Pedregon took advantage of cool, cloudy weather to set a Lucas Oil Raceway record of 4.026 seconds and bump Melanie Troxel from the top funny car qualifying spot at the NHRA’s U.S. Nationals in Clermont, Ind.

Jason Line took over first in pro stock with his Sunday run of 6.603 at 209.01 mph, while Andrew Hines bumped previous leader Matt Smith (6.936) to second in pro stock motorcycle with a final-round pass of 6.909 at 193.90.

WASHINGTON — Tina Charles had 24 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Connecticut Sun to a 79-48 WNBA victory over the Washington Mystics.

Charles has 21 double-doubles this season, one short of the WNBA record she set last year en route to winning the rookie of the year award.

Tamika Catchings and Katie Douglas scored 17 points each to help the visiting Indiana Fever beat the Chicago Sky 88-80.

Maya Moore scored 19 points as the Minnesota Lynx cruised to an 86-68 victory over the host New York Liberty.

Angel McCoughtry scored 19 points and the Atlanta Dream clinched a playoff spot with a 73-52 win over the visiting Tulsa Shock.

Cobo takes Vuelta lead

ALTO DE L’ANGLIRU, Spain — Spanish rider Juan Jose Cobo took over the lead in the Spanish Vuelta from Bradley Wiggins after winning a grueling mountain stage.

The 30-year-old Cobo, who had moved into striking distance Saturday, pulled away from the other race favorites on the brutal climb to the finish line in the foggy Asturias mountain pass of Alto De L’Angliru. The Geox rider finished the 88-mile mountain course starting in Aviles in 4 hours, 1 minute, 56 seconds.

Wiggins, who led for the previous four days, was fifth — 1 minute, 21 seconds behind. The British cyclist dropped to third overall, 46 seconds off Cobo’s lead. Wiggins’ Sky teammate Christopher Froome is second, 20 seconds behind Cobo.
