The University of Colorado and the Boulder County Coroner’s Office confirmed Tuesday that Michael Alexander Hoffman, 21, a student from New Jersey, died late last month after a night spent drinking with friends.
According to the university, Hoffman was found unconscious on the doorstep of an off-campus apartment on University Hill early in the morning of Aug. 26. A resident of the building called 911, and Hoffman was taken to Boulder Community Hospital. Hoffman never regained consciousness, and he died Aug. 30.
The university said Hoffman was drinking and socializing with friends earlier in the evening, but he became separated from them at some point.
The coroner’s office said the cause and manner of death still are being investigated. Toxicology tests often take several weeks.
