Getting your player ready...

Today’s question about the Broncos comes from Chris in Kansas.

Q: Did the Broncos make any surprising decisions when they finalized their 53-man roster?

A: There weren’t any shake-the-ground moves, like cutting your starting quarterback just hours after he gave a speech at the Chamber of Commerce to drum up ticket sales. That’s what the Jacksonville Jaguars did to David Garrard on Tuesday.

Back to the Broncos. They still haven’t “finalized” their roster. They will continue to search for players who can help them rebuild from last year’s 4-12 season.

When asked whether the Broncos had the 53 players they were going to stand pat with, coach John Fox said, “They’re the 53 — today.”

The Broncos signed offensive tackle Tony Hills the next day.

Defensive tackle Ty Warren, who could be out of the lineup into November because of triceps surgery, is on the 53-man roster — as is wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, who is coming back from a torn Achilles tendon.

Warren is one of 10 defensive linemen on the roster. Thomas, meanwhile, is ahead of schedule in his recovery from injury. After practicing with the scout team for the time being, he should be ready to play by the season’s sixth game.

It was mildly surprising that the Broncos initially kept safeties Darcel McBath and David Bruton, but McBath was released when veteran cornerback Jonathan Wilhite was signed as a free agent.
