Today’s of-the-now interiors will make fashion and design fans roar.

That’s because leopard spots, zebra stripes and other animal prints have come out of the boudoir and into mainstream home decorating, according to Joyce Clegg of Daydream Inc.

Clegg is an allied member of the Colorado chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers. She was tapped to spearhead five professionally decorated room vignettes equaling about 1,000 square feet at the Colorado Fall Home Show, happening through Sunday.

Decorating with animal prints used to be considered edgy or avant-garde. “Today, they’re a classic,” Clegg says.

Some designers go so far as to say a room without an animal print is like Lady Gaga without an outrageous costume: Something just feels off.

Other decorating tips and trends that characterize these ASID-designed vignettes:

• Savvy pattern mixing.

• A recent shift in the popular palette toward deeper hues and jewel tones.

• The move in home decorating to be more closely aligned with high fashion.

• The way all mainstream home decorating trends are adapted in Colorado for peak comfort and year-round outdoor living.

It used to be that “interior fashion followed high fashion by three or five years,” Clegg says. “Now, because of the Internet and our more global society, there’s no lag time between high fashion and home fashion.

“What’s happening on the runways,” she says, “is what’s happening with interiors.”
