CARBONDALE, Colo.—The U.S. Forest Service is reviewing a plan to reopen an alabaster mine in the Avalanche Creek Valley south of Carbondale.

The application for resuming operation of the Mystic Eagle Mine initially proposed year-round activity, seven days a week, but the owners have agreed to cut back winter operations to five days a week.

According to the Aspen Times (), the road is now closed to vehicles from Nov. 15 through April 30 annually to protect bighorn sheep.
