MORRISON, Colo.—Denver officials insisted the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheater was safe Monday after rocks fell on concertgoers, injuring seven people and sending four of them to the hospital.
Denver cultural affairs spokeswoman Kristin Rust said a contractor, Yenter Companies that specialized in drilling, blasting, rock and soil stabilization, has been called in to inspect the rock formations to make sure there are no more incidents.
She said authorities still do not know if the rock fall was natural or caused by climbers.
Witnesses told KMGH-TV () that rocks rained down on people sitting near the front, left side of the stage, leaving people with severe injuries. A spokeswoman for West Metro Fire Rescue said the names of the victims and extent of the injuries was not available.
