LARAMIE — Wyoming’s running back committee has no complaints.
With the offense moving the ball, there have been plenty of carries to go around.
Juniors Alvester Alexander (from Houston) and Ghaali Muhammad (St. Joseph, Mo.) and sophomore Brandon Miller of Mountain Vista High School in Highlands Ranch all scored a touchdown and the latter two eclipsed the 100-yard mark as the Cowboys cruised past Texas State 45-10 on Saturday night at War Memorial Stadium.
“I don’t think anybody’s got a problem with what’s going on,” said Alexander, a third-year starter. “We just know, basically, that there’s three of us back there, and we’ve all got good potential to do some things. And we just know when our number’s called, you do what you can do.”

Through two games, each of them has done plenty.
Alexander has garnered the most touches, rushing the ball 25 times for 95 carries and two touchdowns in victories over Football Championship Subdivision opponents.
Miller has piled up the most rushing yards, turning 21 carries into 162 yards. He scored his first collegiate touchdown in Saturday’s game.
And Muhammad, thanks to two long runs in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s rout, has been the most affective with 160 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. Muhammad’s 56-yard bust set up the Cowboys’ fifth touchdown of the day, then he scored the sixth and final time from 50 yards.
“Having three running backs, with all the different talents they possess, they’ve got to game plan for each one because each one brings a different dimension,” said freshman quarterback Brett Smith, who also ran for 73 yards and two touchdowns against the Bobcats. “And the good thing for me is they can catch too, every single one of them.”
Muhammad has just one catch for 4 yards, but the running backs are clearly a focal point of the spread attack, even when the ball is put in the air.
Miller, who was listed as a receiver last season, caught both of his receptions — for 36 yards — in the season opener.
Alexander is one of Smith’s top targets, with seven receptions for 110 yards, including a 48-yard catch Saturday.
“It’s just a play that we’ve been practicing . . . and he always tells me if I’m open, he’s going to throw it to me,” Alexander said.
It’s just one more offensive weapon Wyoming opponents will have to keep in mind.
It’s the exact situation the Cowboys were hoping for when they assembled the running back rotation.
“It’s great because I can be tired and I know they’ve got my back and I have their back,” Miller said. “We rolled (Saturday), and it was fun.”
