Getting your player ready...

Troy Tulowitzki made a deal with Jim Tracy on Tuesday afternoon. Tulo was in the lineup Tracy posted in the clubhouse, but the two agreed that Tulowitzi would be scratched if the soreness in his left hip bothered him during batting practice. So what happens? Tulo not only plays, he turns in one of the best defensive plays of the season, backhanding Casey McGehee’s groundball to his right and firing to Mark Ellis to start a double play with two runners aboard in the fourth.

By the numbers.

The Brewers are 6 1/2 games ahead of the Cardinals in the National League Central. Now for the numbers behind the numbers: They are 87-62 — 23-32 vs. teams currently with winning records, 64-30 vs. teams with losing records.

Case closed.

With wildfires in Minnesota creating a smoky haze over Milwaukee, the Brewers closed the roof over Miller Park. Even then, smoke was readily visible throughout the game.
