Shoppers were swarming Target stores Tuesday morning as limited edition clothing and accessories from Missoni, a high-end Italian company, hit its floors.
“Merchandise is flying off the shelves,” said Stacey Luthy, the executive on duty Tuesday morning at the Orchard Town Center store in Westminster. “We’re saying Missoni is like the day after Thanksgiving.” Women’s clothing and shoes, as well as home furnishings, are particularly popular, she said.
At the store in Glendale, which opened at 8 a.m., a clerk in the women’s clothing department said that by 8:15, racks held only a few items. An hour later, shoppers were hovering around clerks opening boxes in the home furnishings department, hoping to snap up $30 pillows and $100 duvet sets as inventory was replenished.
Missoni, which is known for its expensive, colorful knitwear that can cost hundreds of dollars per item, collaborated with Target to come up with a line of some 400 fashion and home products selling for as little as $7 for socks to $600 for patio furniture. The promotion was scheduled to last until Oct. 22, but store spokespeople said they’re not sure what if any additional inventory they’ll be getting. “I told customers they should look in other stores,” Luthy said. The company’s website was also experiencing brisk traffic.
