An alleged drunken driver was arrested this morning in Loveland after a stolen vehicle crashed into a parked pickup truck, which plowed into a light pole, knocking it down.

At 10:17 this morning, emergency responders received a series of calls reporting a man had crashed in the 600 block of East First Street.

Officers found Daniel James Compeau, 30, hiding in a bush north of the scene of the accident. He was treated on scene for minor injuries caused by the bush and not cooperating with the K-9 unit, according to Loveland Police.

Witnesses said Compeau fled on foot after unsuccessfully trying to dislodge his car from the pickup truck, police said.

The owner of the stolen car is filing a theft report with the Johnston Police Department.

Compeau, a transient, was transferred to the Larimer County Jail and will appear in the county district attorney’s office next week. He faces charges of one felony, five misdemeanors, three traffic misdemeanors, theft by receiving, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, second degree criminal trespass, resisting arrest and obstructing a peace officer.

Police do not have an estimate on the amount of damage caused by the accident.
