Wyoming (2-0) at Bowling Green (2-0)
10 a.m., Doyt L. Perry Stadium
Expect there to be plenty of offense with two of the nation’s top units: Wyoming is ranked No. 10 nationally in total offense (540.5 yards per game), and Bowling Green is No. 11 (525.0). Wyoming freshman QB Brett Smith is averaging 323.5 yards total offense (265.0 passing), while Falcons sophomore Matt Schilz is averaging 276.0 total yards (274.5 passing). The last time these teams met (2008 in Laramie), Wyoming offensive coordinator Gregg Brandon was Bowling Green’s head coach, and he directed the Falcons to a 45-16 win.
Northern Colorado (0-2) at Idaho State (1-1)
3:30 p.m., Holt Arena
This Big Sky opener is a chance for the Bears to get out of a slump. UNC has won three in a row against Idaho State. Northern Colorado’s secondary gets another big test going against a Idaho State team that loves to throw. The Tigers lead the nation in passing offense, averaging 430.5 yards. Their QBs (led by Kevin Yost) have thrown 100 passes, including six for TDs. UNC senior receiver Patrick Walker has 105 career receptions and needs five more to set the school’s Division I record. The question is who will be throwing the ball to him: Seth Lobato, Dylan Orms or Matt Baca.
N.M. Highlands (2-0) at Colorado Mines (2-0)
Noon, Campbell Field
The Orediggers checked in at No. 20 in this week’s NCAA Division II coaches’ poll and start conference play against a Cowboys team that is undefeated under first-year coach Eric Young. Mines RB Dan Palmer comes in with his confidence high after rushing for 168 yards and three TDs in last week’s win against South Dakota Mines. He also had 72 yards receiving and was named the RMAC offensive player of the week. But Highlands has allowed just 235 yards rushing in its first two games, including only 54 yards on 35 attempts last week by Eastern New Mexico, which threw the ball 65 times.
CSU-Pueblo (2-0) at Adams State (2-0)
7 p.m., Rex Stadium
The battle for southern Colorado goes under the lights with two undefeated teams. The ThunderWolves, led by junior quarterback Ross Dausin, jumped to No. 18 in this week’s D-II polls, and Adams State, which is 2-0 for the first time since 1996, is starting to receive votes. It is the first home night game in the Grizzlies’ history. Adams State’s Saffold brothers, Terjean and Torijean, have been in control of the running game with the elder Terjean averaging 116.5 yards and the younger Torijean picking up the offense after joining the team in the spring.
