State Treasurer Walker Stapleton sued the board that manages the public pension fund for state workers on Monday — the result of a failed attempt to get pension financial data.
Stapleton is seeking information about the top 20 percent of pension beneficiaries, including their annual benefits, former job and salary and age of retirement. Stapleton also wants to know their ZIP codes.
The Colorado Public Employees’ Retirement Association board has refused Stapleton’s requests to access such financial data. The 16-member board cited confidentiality rules and said viewing that financial data is not part of Stapleton’s job description.
As treasurer, the Republican Stapleton has an automatic seat on the board. The state attorney general’s office is representing the treasurer.
