COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The Colorado Springs health department is looking at hefty fees to restore programs slashed by budget cuts.
The fees would cover pool and spa inspections, a meth-lab clean-up program and several other major public health services that were axed in 2009 because of budget cuts.
According to the Colorado Springs Gazette ( ), the effort to bring back six programs eliminated in the aftermath of major budget cuts from 2001 to 2008 is not business as usual.
Under the proposed fees, a body art plan review would cost more than $300, a restaurant review could cost up to $580 and a wastewater system permit could cost up to $500.
City officials have said they were forced to make the cuts under the city’s tough tax- and spending-limits.
