For the first time, a limited number of licenses to hunt elk in the Arapaho National Wildlife Refuge in Jackson County will be offered for the 2012 big game season.
Hunting permits will be issued with a preference to youth and the disabled, the refuge office in Walden announced today.
Depending on how many of those hunters apply, there could be a drawing for able-bodied hunters, the agency said.
All hunters will have to have an existing elk license issued by Colorado Parks and Wildlife for the 2012 rifle elk season.

This story has been corrected in this online archive. Originally, due to a reporting error, the year that the elk hunt licenses would be issued was incorrect. They will be issued for the 2012 season.
