A woman wanted in connection with a case involving a fatal shooting by a sheriff’s deputy has been taken into custody.
Brittney Angel, 21, surrendered to Colorado Springs Police detectives at about 1 a.m. today, according to a police department media release.
Angel was wanted on suspicion of felony eluding and tampering with evidence in connection with the fatal shooting of Christen Vargas, 27, by an El Paso County Sheriff’s deputy on Sept. 13.
Angel was in a car with Vargas when the vehicle struck a sheriff’s deputy, police said. A deputy fired a shot at the car, which was found several hours later in a parking lot of Memorial Hospital with Vargas body inside.
The El Paso County Coroner’s Office has determined that the deputy’s shot killed Vargas.
An investigation into the incident continues.
