A homeless man who was assaulted while sleeping in a Colorado Springs park this month has died from his injuries, police said today.
John Carlos Martinez, 47, was hit repeatedly while he slept on playground equipment at Dorchester Park around 11 p.m. on Sept. 13, according to Colorado Springs police Sgt. Steve Noblitt.
Someone reported the attack the following morning, and Martinez was hospitalized with severe injuries.
He died on Thursday, Noblitt said. The El Paso County Coroner’s office determined the death was a homicide caused by blunt-force trauma.
Detectives have little information on the suspects.
