The board of Colorado Concern, the business alliance that longtime Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce spokeswoman and adviser Tamra Ward will lead beginning Oct. 24, is looking to her to help increase the organization’s prominence.

“Tamra has the background, experience and skill set required to lead our organization as we look to play a prominent role in addressing the challenges that face Colorado, as well as celebrating those areas where we are successful,” said John Ikard, co-chair of Colorado Concern and chief executive of FirstBank.

Ward, who has been a top policy and political adviser for the Denver Chamber for 10 years, “will help our organization address our top priorities and ensure that Colorado has a business-friendly environment,” said Pat Hamill, also a Colorado Concern co-chair and Oakwood Homes chief executive.

Ward, who has more than 20 years experience in government relations and communications, replaces Janice Sinden, who became Denver Mayor Michael Hancock’s chief of staff in July.

Colorado Concern is an alliance of top business executives working on business and economic development issues.

The alliance “has a huge interest in the future of our state,” Ward said, including “the fiscal challenges, educational system, what we do about roadways and the cost of health care.”

At the chamber, Ward was a key player on issues such as transportation, education, health care and improving the business climate, including managing campaigns against Amendments 60 and 61, proposals to limit state spending and borrowing, which were decisively defeated last year.

Denver’s November ballot has a proposal to mandate paid sick leave. Colorado Concern has taken a stand against the issue, and Ward has been a high-profile opponent.
