BOULDER — Two women were taken to the hospital after an elderly woman drove her Lincoln Continental through a plate-glass window into the crowded lobby of the U.S. Postal Service’s Valmont Station in Boulder on Tuesday morning.
The driver — identified as Gloria Sawyer, 89 — mistook the gas pedal for the brake as she was parking on the south end of the post office, said Boulder police Sgt. Jim MacPherson.
She drove through the window into an area where many customers were waiting. The car came to a stop just short of the counter.
The two women’s injuries were not life-threatening, police said. Two other people were treated on the scene for minor injuries.
“I thought a bomb had exploded,” said Heather Beadle, who was buying stamps. “I just ran out.”
