The University of Denver was picked Tuesday to win the Western Collegiate Hockey Association in a preseason poll of media members. Colorado College was picked to finish second, followed by North Dakota.
Pioneers forward Jason Zucker was selected as the league’s preseason player of the year with 10 votes. Tigers forward Jaden Schwartz was second with eight votes.
Former Pioneer nominated for national honor.
Former University of Denver cheerleader Lacey Henderson was nominated for the America’s Choice Honor for Courage in Sports.
Henderson, a cancer survivor who is set to compete in the 2012 Paralympics, lost her right leg to cancer when she was 9 years old.
The America’s Choice Honor, determined by fan voting, recognizes individuals who have overcome monumental challenges to achieve greatness in sports. The winner will be announced on a one-hour “Courage in Sports” broadcast at 3 p.m., Nov. 13 on KUSA-9.
