Back roads in Weld County can no longer handle the heavy traffic coming from oil and gas trucks.

Weld officials know that, and so do the people in the trucks.

This fall, Weld commissioners approved an additional $8 million to spend on maintaining roads the oil and gas companies use to haul equipment to their sites. The industry, in turn, is working with county leaders to help pay for the repairs, said county commissioner Barbara Kirkmeyer.
