HOPKINSVILLE, Ky.—The Kentucky New Era has hired a new editor as it prepares to change its publishing schedule while focusing on more community news and online updates.
The newspaper announced Monday that Eli Pace, 29, previously night editor at The Leaf-Chronicle in Clarksville, Tenn., has taken the helm. ()
The 142-year-old newspaper next week will switch from afternoon to morning delivery and is cutting back its publishing scheduled to five days from the previous six. Subscribers will get their newspapers delivered Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, said the newspaper’s publisher, Taylor Wood Hayes.
“I sensed from the outset after meeting Eli that he is news-driven and highly focused on the community, which bodes well with this institution’s mission to be thoughtful stewards of the community,” Hayes said.
Hayes said Monday’s edition will spotlight more community news from Christian, Todd and Trigg counties, the western Kentucky counties the newspaper covers in what is known as the Pennyrile region.
Former editor Jennifer P. Brown is moving to the position of opinion editor, where she will oversee the new local opinion page and write a column.
Pace received his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Northern Colorado and worked for the Greeley, Colo., Tribune. He was also a copy editor at The Daily News in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
“It’s incredibly exciting for me to be leading The Kentucky New Era as it undergoes such dramatic, aggressive changes to better serve its readers in the Pennyrile region,” Pace said. “The KNE is an amazing newspaper with a remarkable 142-year history, and I look forward to building on that strong tradition while really getting to know the community and what makes it great.”
