A small number of snakes, including a boa constrictor, survived a fire at a business in Littleton.
The fire broke out at about 5:30 a.m. Monday at Pro Exotic Reptiles, 3911 Norwood Drive, according to the Littleton Fire Department.
About 3,000 non-venomous snakes were inside the facility, which was heavily burned and damaged, and most of the animals died in the blaze.
“Almost all of them died from the fire,” the fire department said in a media release. “However…a small number of snakes had been found alive.
Some snake eggs, incubated at the business, were also lost in the fire, although some may be salvageable, the fire department said.
Fire investigators do not suspect arson, Division Chief Jim Hofstra said. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
