The town is considering spending $50,000 to sign on with a market research firm to help fill thousands of square feet of empty retail space at Superior Marketplace with the most promising assortment of shops and restaurants.
A representative of Buxton Co., a market research firm based in Fort Worth, Texas, told the town trustees Monday night that his company can help the town identify and categorize local consumers down to the shampoo or bottled water they buy.
The company’s massive consumer preference database — built in part on credit card purchases, store loyalty card use, and other point-of-sale electronic transactions — can then be used to lure to town retailers that are the most responsive to that demand, Buxton sales director Joe Brown said.
