MONTROSE, Colo.—Montrose officials are discussing whether to set a $6 monthly fee for what started as a free recycling curbside program.
The free program started in April 2009 with about 260 participants but that number has grown to more than 2,500 customers and officials say the program needs more funding or it will be broke by mid-2012. The Montrose Daily Press reports ( ) that the City Council will discuss the proposed fee on Tuesday.
Mayor Kathy Ellis says the city doesn’t want to do away with the program but that paying $6 may be worth the convenience of using the program.
