LAS VEGAS — Kevin Na won the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open on Sunday for his first PGA Tour title, birdieing Nos. 15-17 to pull away for a two-stroke victory over Nick Watney.

The 28-year-old Na closed with a 6-under-par 65 for a tournament-record 23-under 261 total at TPC Summerlin in the Fall Series opener. Watney, a two-time winner this year, shot a 67.

Tied for the lead with Watney entering the round, Na sealed the victory with a 42-foot birdie putt on the par-3 17th. Na and Watney both parred the par-4 18th.

Tommy Gainey and Paul Goydos had 68s to tie for third at 18-under, and David Hearn (65), Carl Pettersson (68), Jhonattan Vegas (68), Tim Herron (69) and Spencer Levin (68) followed at 17-under.

• Northern Ireland’s Michael Hoey held off countryman Rory McIlroy to win the Dunhill Links Championship by two shots in St. Andrews, Scotland.

Hoey, ranked No. 271 in the world, lost his three- shot overnight lead early in his final round but regrouped to shoot 4-under 68. His 22-under total broke the tournament record by one shot. McIlroy, who began the day five shots back of Hoey, shot a 65.

Carpenter wins IndyCar race

SPARTA, Ky. — Ed Carpenter staged a wheel-to-wheel battle over the final 22 laps with Dario Franchitti, then edged him at the finish line at Kentucky Speedway to earn his first career IndyCar Series win.

Although Franchitti settled for second, he reclaimed the lead in the points standings in part to a horrendous day for Will Power, who finished 19th.

• Rain forced NHRA officials to postpone the final eliminations at the NHRA Nationals in Mohnton, Pa., until today.

Lynx prevails in WNBA opener

MINNEAPOLIS — Rebekkah Brunson had 26 points and 11 rebounds and Seimone Augustus added 22 points to lead the Minnesota Lynx to an 88-74 victory over the Atlanta Dream in Game 1 of the WNBA Finals.

Lindsay Whalen added 15 points and six assists, and the Lynx turned a close game into a runaway with a 13-0 run to open the fourth quarter.

Murray tops Young in straight sets

BANGKOK — Fourth-ranked Andy Murray claimed his 19th career title by beating American Donald Young 6-2, 6-0 in the final of the Thailand Open.

The top-seeded Briton was in complete control throughout the 48-minute match, exploiting the lack of experience and unforced errors from his 55th- ranked opponent.

Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia defeated Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus 6-4, 7-5 to win the Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur, capturing his first ATP World Tour title in his fifth final.

The final three quarterfinal spots at the Rugby World Cup in Auckland, New Zealand, were decided with Ireland defeating Italy 36-6 to set up a knockout clash against Wales, which beat Fiji 66-0. Argentina defeated Georgia 25-7 to set up a quarterfinal against New Zealand, which routed Canada 79-15.

• Acclamation extended his winning streak to five races with a victory in the $150,000 Clement L. Hirsch Turf Championship at Santa Anita in Arcadia, Calif., keeping him on course for the Breeders’ Cup.
