DENVER—A federal lawsuit alleges that a hotel in western Colorado fired workers because the employers believed white and non-Hispanic workers were indolent.
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is seeking back pay for a group of employees federal officials say were fired beginning in August from a Hampton Inn franchise in Craig, Colo. The lawsuit was filed last week but federal officials announced it Monday.
The hotel is operated by Century Shree Corporation and Century Rama, Inc. The hotel referred questions to attorney Tim Kingston, who said he could not comment because he had not yet discussed the lawsuit with his clients. Kingston says the companies are Wyoming corporations.
Federal officials are also seeking mandatory antidiscrimination classes for the companies.
