GOLDEN, Colo.—The National Renewable Energy Lab in Golden says it will use voluntary buyouts to cut 100 to 150 jobs.
The lab employs about 1,350 people today.
NREL spokesman Bob Noun told The Denver Post ( ) the jobs were a victim of the gridlocked Congress, and that budget forecasts led the lab to look for more than $8 million in savings. He says there’s no deadline for the buyouts.
Governor’s Energy Office Director TJ Deora says the cuts were anticipated now that stimulus money is winding down.
But Rep. Ed Perlmutter’s spokeswoman Leslie Oliver says the Colorado Democrat is concerned that the cuts also affect companies like the wind turbine manufacturer Vestas that put facilities in Colorado partly because of links to NREL.
