GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Grand Junction’s City Council has given the city manager approval to proceed with talks with Monfort Investment Group on a minor league baseball franchise.
Monfort Investment Group, led by Colorado Rockies general partners Dick and Charlie Monfort, bought the Casper Ghosts of Wyoming this year, leading to speculation that the minor league team might leave Casper, Wyo.
Grand Junction Mayor Tom Kenyon said at a City Council meeting Wednesday that in an executive session before the meeting, council members had given the city manager approval to proceed with talks.
An item requiring City Council’s vote is expected to be on the agenda for the council’s Oct. 17 meeting, but the city isn’t releasing any details.
