Longmont-based DigitalGlobe announced today that it has been awarded a one-year contract worth up to $38 million over the next year to provide high-resolution Earth images to the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency.

The award expands the $3.55 billion contract that DigitalGlobe won in 2010 to assist the intelligence community and defense department in warfare, crisis support and humanitarian efforts.

DigitalGlobe will provide daily images via the web within 24 hours of collection, quick-turnaround images of high-priority geographic locations and a nearly cloud-free wide-area mapping layer.

Initial production and deliveries under the agreement are expected to begin before the end of the year.
