COLORADO SPRINGS — The chief executive officers of Aurora-based University of Colorado Hospital and the Fort Collins-based Poudre Valley Health System are expressing interest in the Memorial Health System in Colorado Springs.

A Colorado Springs task force is putting the finishing touches on a request for proposals to lease Memorial, which is city-owned. It hopes to pick a winner by the end of the year. Voters would decide on the deal in 2012.

The Gazette reported that University Hospital CEO Bruce Schroffel and Poudre Valley CEO Rulon Stacey visited Colorado Springs on Thursday to make their case.

Both say Memorial would be a natural fit with the joint venture that University Hospital and Poudre Valley announced this year. The hospitals plan to combine their operations while keeping separate boards and assets.
