Quarterback Angelo Perez accounted for two fourth-quarter touchdowns and Jose Fraire rushed for 197 yards and a score as Broomfield, ranked No. 7 in Class 4A, rallied to beat 5A Denver East 31-16 in a nonleague game Friday.
It was the 200th coaching victory for Gary Davies.
East (5-1) led 16-14 after three quarters on a Kadeem Hendrix touchdown pass and Shahid Hoover’s go-ahead, 2-yard run late in the third quarter.
But Perez, who was 10-of-19 for 154 yards and two touchdowns passing, hit Nick Ongarato on a 13-yard scoring toss for a 22-16 Broomfield lead, then made it 28-16 with a 36-yard scoring run. Pat Lalancette added a 28-yard field goal as the Eagles (5-1) won their third straight since losing to No. 2 Monarch.
Pomona 42, Boulder 0
ARVADA — Alec Feland passed for 208 yards and four touchdowns, all in the first half, as fifth-ranked Pomona added to slumping Boulder’s woes in a Super 6 League game.
Pomona (5-1, 2-0) scored all its points in the first half, resulting in a running clock the entire second half.
Boulder (3-3, 0-2), playing without suspended star running back Demetrius Kennedy, suffered its third consecutive shutout and gained only 64 total yards. Boulder has lost its last two by a combined 90-0, including a 48-0 loss to No. 6 Ralston Valley last week.
Highlands Ranch 23, Mountain Vista 21
HIGHLANDS RANCH — Joe Hansley rushed for 227 yards and three touchdowns and the eighth- ranked Falcons survived a fourth- quarter comeback in a Continental League game.
Highlands Ranch (5-1, 2-1) built a 23-7 lead after three quarters but Tim Cusick, who entered the game at quarterback in the second half, threw two scoring passes to Rocco Palumbo for the Golden Eagles (3-3, 0-2).
Tanner Smith converted a two- point conversion after the first, making it 23-15. Mountain Vista recovered the ensuing onside kick and drove to the second score, a 10-yard pass, with 47 seconds left. But Smith was stopped short on the two-point conversion attempt.
Lewis-Palmer 15, Palmer Ridge 9
MONUMENT — Nate Conner’s 3-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion run with 10:15 left stood up as the Rangers (5-1, 2-1 3A South Central) prevailed over Palmer Ridge (4-2, 2-1) in the Battle of the Hill game.
Ralston Valley 28, Legacy 21
THORNTON — Cory Witt’s 85-yard kickoff return in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference as the sixth-ranked Mustangs survived a scare from the Lightning in a Super 6 League game. Witt’s return gave Ralston Valley (6-0, 2-0) a 28-14 cushion, which Legacy (2-4, 0-2) cut to the final margin on Patrick Medina’s 5-yard touchdown run.
Footnotes.
• Olathe, the defending 2A state champion and ranked No. 10, lost 23-22 in overtime to Roaring Fork, falling to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the Western Slope League.
