A 17-year-old Peyton girl was killed late Saturday when the car she was driving veered off the highway and into a pasture, flipping four times.
Sirena Gomez was ejected from her Saturn L300 sedan during the crash, which occurred at 11:53 p.m. on Curtis and Garrett roads in eastern El Paso County.
KOAA television in Colorado Springs reported that the crash occurred following the homecoming dance at Falcon High School, where Gomez was a student.
The vehicle had been traveling south on Curtis Road at a high rate of speed, according to the Colorado State Patrol. As it approached the intersection with Garrett Road, Gomez traveled off the southeast corner of the intersection.
Alcohol and drugs are not considered a factor in the crash, the state patrol said.
Gomez was not wearing her seatbelt, they said.
