BRIGHTON, Colo.—A former employee of an Adams County paving company has been acquitted of allegations that he helped the firm bill the county for $1.8 million in work that was never done.
A jury acquitted Louie Schimpf of more than 30 felony counts Wednesday. He had worked for Quality Paving and Quality Resurfacing, which were awarded no-bid contracts with the county over several years.
Schimpf had said he just followed his bosses’ orders and didn’t know invoices were improper.
KMGH-TV in Denver reports ( ) former Quality Paving President Dennis Coen, former owner Jerry Rhea and former county contract manager Sam Gomez are scheduled for trial in December.
Another former county employee and a former Quality Paving employee have pleaded guilty and have agreed to testify against others.
