A man who died Thursday after being hit by an SUV in Boulder has been identified as 35-year-old Matthew John Vaow, according to the Boulder County Coroner’s Office.
Boulder police said they believe Vaow was crossing 28th Street just north of Valmont Road at about 7:22 p.m. Wednesday when he was hit by an oncoming SUV. Vaow was not using a crosswalk.
Officials said they believe Vaow may have been homeless, and was drinking with a group of men on the west side of 28th Street prior to the accident.
The female driver of the SUV, a Toyota RAV4, was traveling north on 28th Street. She told investigators that she did not see anyone in the road before the accident. She is not suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, and police don’t believe that speed was a factor.
