UNIONDALE, N.Y. — Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro is out with a concussion again — the latest in an array of injuries — and there is no timetable for his return.
He was struck in the mask on a shot by new teammate Brian Rolston during practice Wednesday and underwent tests Thursday, the team said Friday.
Meanwhile, the NHL’s protocol regarding concussions does not sit well with Capitals forward Brooks Laich.
“I really don’t care about that awareness crap, to be honest, I’m sick of hearing all this talk about concussions and the quiet room,” Laich said. “This is what we love to do, guys love to play, they love to compete, they want to be on the ice. How do you take that away from somebody?”
Laich made his comments a day after teammate Jay Beagle was knocked down in a fight with Pittsburgh’s Arron Asham. Beagle, who was bloodied and needed help getting off the ice, wanted to get back in the game but was not allowed.
Also, Blues forward Andy McDonald returned to St. Louis to be evaluated for — what else? — a possible concussion.
Brodeur questionable
NEWARK, N.J. — Devils goalie Martin Brodeur traveled with the team to Tennessee for tonight’s game against the Predators, but he remains uncertain because of a minor shoulder injury suffered Thursday against the Kings.
