CHENEY, Wash. — Bo Levi Mitchell passed for 400 yards and three touchdowns Saturday, leading Eastern Washington to a 48-27 homecoming victory over Northern Colorado.
Mitchell completed 28-of-39 passes and also ran for a touchdown for the Eagles (3-4, 3-2 Big Sky), who have three consecutive victories.
Seth Lobato passed for a career-high 408 yards and one touchdown for UNC (0-7, 0-5).
UNC’s Patrick Walker, a senior wide receiver, finished with 14 catches for a career-high 166 yards and one touchdown. The Bears generated a season-high 425 total yards, but that included only 17 yards rushing. They committed three turnovers during the second half.
After Northern Colorado climbed to within 27-20 on Dave Eden’s field goal late in the third quarter, Eastern Washington responded with back-to-back touchdowns in a span of 22 seconds to pull away.
Mitchell sandwiched scoring passes of 12 yards to Greg Herd and 42 yards to Nicholas Edwards around T.J. Lee’s interception of Lobato to go up 41-20 with 58 seconds left in the third quarter. Herd’s 11 receptions for 159 yards were career-high totals.
Northern Colorado was driving at the beginning of the fourth quarter, but Lobato was hit from behind on a pass attempt. The play was ruled a fumble and the Eagles took over at the Bears’ 45-yard line. UNC’s defense held, forcing a field-goal attempt of 43 yards. But the Bears jumped offside and the Eagles were able to continue the drive and score another touchdown with 12:04 left for a 48-20 lead.
