BlogMutt, a Boulder startup that provides content for small or niche blogs, used an old counting game as part of an attempt to establish a world record at the seventh annual DEMOgala technology conference at the Sheraton Denver Downtown on Friday.

The company placed a jar of M&Ms on each of the tables in the main ballroom and asked attendees to guess how many pieces of candy were in each jar.The guesses were submitted online. As of Friday afternoon, BlogMutt planned to send the total number of guesses to Guinness World Records for the “largest real-time crowdsourcing experiment,” according to co-founder Scott Yates.

The correct answer was somewhere north of 700 for each jar. Yates tweeted that the range of guesses was “huge.”
