Boise State Broncos
Air Force at Boise State, 1:30 p.m. Saturday, TV: Versus
For the record: Fifth-ranked Boise State is 6-0 overall and 1-0 in the Mountain West after blasting Colorado State 63-13 in Fort Collins over the weekend. Boise State is No. 5 in the first Bowl Championship Series standings of the 2011 season.
Streaking: Good luck trying to beat the Broncos on their blue artificial turf at Bronco Stadium. The Broncos have won 64 consecutive regular-season home games since a 42-20 loss to Washington on Sept. 1, 2001. They lost to Boston College 27-21 in the 2005 Humanitarian Bowl at Bronco Stadium.
Who’s hot: Doug Martin, a 5-foot-9, 208-pound senior tailback from Stockton, Calif., had 20 carries for 200 yards and three touchdowns against CSU. He’s averaging 5.1 yards per carry, and his per-game average (103.7 yards) ranks 27th nationally.
Who’s not: It’s difficult to find a Boise State player who’s not having a great season, but freshman place-kicker Dan Goodale has missed four extra points. He is 2-for-3 on field goals.
Key stat: Not only do the Broncos tend to bury opponents, they do it quickly. Boise State has outscored opponents 153-29 in the first half en route to averaging 44.3 points per game.
FYI: It’s no surprise that senior quarterback Kellen Moore is a Heisman Trophy candidate. Moore is 44-2 as a starter and needs only two wins to surpass former Texas star Colt McCoy as the winningest QB in major-college history. Irv Moss, The Denver Post
