Two first-term Republican congressmen — Cory Gardner and Scott Tipton — led fundraising last quarter among Colorado’s seven U.S. House members.
Gardner, of Yuma, raised $371,313, while Tipton, of Cortez, raised $303,380.
As expected, incumbents who already have an opponent easily outraised their challengers.
The quarterly reports, filed with the Federal Election Commission, were made public over the weekend. They cover contributions and expenses for July, August and September.
Tipton and Gardner unseated Democratic incumbents in 2010 and are being challenged by two state legislative leaders. Senate President Brandon Shaffer of Longmont is taking on Gardner in the 4th District, while House Minority Leader Sal Pace of Pueblo is running against Tipton in the 3rd District.
For now.
A trial to determine how the state’s seven congressional districts should be redrawn is underway in Denver District Court. The outcome could change the races.
One proposal takes Pueblo out of the 3rd District and puts it in the 4th with Gardner. Others take Shaffer out of the 4th and put him in the 2nd with U.S. Rep. Jared Polis, a fellow Democrat.
