The chief of West Metro Fire Rescue is resigning today for personal reasons.
Chief Douglas McBee was chief at West Metro for about eight years, said West Metro spokeswoman Michelle French.
She did not disclose the reason he is stepping down but said the department is issuing a press release on the matter later today.
Deputy Chief Don Lombardi will be sworn in tonight as interim chief. The West Metro board will decide whether to launch a national search for a permanent chief or whether to hire from within.
Before coming to West Metro, McBee was with the Aurora Fire Department for 27 years.
West Metro Fire Protection District, the largest special fire district in Colorado, serves a population of 265,000 citizens and over 110 square miles, according to its website.
