SANTIAGO, Chile — More violence has broken out in Chile as small groups of hooded vandals confronted police at an otherwise peaceful march by about 100,000 students pressing for changes in education.
Two huge marches organized with approval from authorities converged in Chile’s capital Wednesday as students demanded that the government fund quality public education, rather than make minor reforms to a privatized system. As the demonstration broke up, small groups of vandals attacked police, and violence spread quickly on both sides.
