University of Colorado faculty members in Boulder and Colorado Springs are collaborating to teach courses on how to design electric vehicle drivetrains and get them on the roads.

The U.S. Department of Energy provided a five-year, $954,000 grant for the project.

President Barack Obama has outlined a goal of having 1 million electric cars on the roads by 2015. And Greg Plett, a professor at CU-Colorado Springs, said there is an “incredible demand” for engineers well-versed in electric vehicles.
