Getting your player ready...

Christy Morris got her car last weekend and she’s still pinching herself.

She was on “Oprah” last November — one of those special shows that saluted heroes and volunteers of communities. They were individually invited, but they didn’t know that everyone would get A NEW CAR!

They didn’t go home with the cars, but Oprah promised everyone that a 2012 VW Beetle would be theirs in about one year.

Well, it all came true. I mean, if you can’t take Oprah’s word for it, who can you trust?

“It’s so cute,” says Morris, the former wife of concert promoter Chuck Morris.

She also received an iPad, Ugg boots, a Coach purse, diamond earrings and more.

Morris works as a server at Wild Eggs — so she’s not exactly rolling in the pancakes. It’s a good thing that Oprah picked up all the taxes on the deal, and the plates and registration for the silver bug, more than $8,000.

Some people got so excited at the show that an ambulance was waiting outside.

“I put 140 miles on the car so far, since I picked it up at (Denver auto dealer) Emich, and it came with a full tank of gas,” Morris says. “The most exciting part is to be in the car at night and turn the inside lights on. It’s like a disco.”

Townies

Even Outside magazine is bored with Boulder. In its current “Where to Live Now” issue, it picks 19 perfect towns. And it’s always a safe bet that Boulder’s on the roster.

“Yeah, yeah, we’ve had it with Boulder, too,” laments the mag, then points out that the perfect place does have real estate prices like Monaco. Median income: $47,967. Median home value: $477,700.

Say people who voted in the survey: “Twenty-seven square miles surrounded by reality, where hippies drive BMWs.” “Filled with health Nazis, but as a stepping-off point for the Rockies it’s freakin’ awesome.”

Here comes the judge

Judge Kevin Ross has been slamming the gavel on CBS4 at 3 p.m. weekdays for about a month — and I talked to him by phone recently while he was sipping a toddy at the Second Home Bar at JW Marriott.

He says these court shows — his is “America’s Court” — are so popular because they are so consistent. Even though he hears cases from all over the country, they are all interesting because people keep doing the strangest things. “People are saying, ‘I can’t believe I am watching this!’ “

And he, like the rest of the TV judges, is one strict dude.

“Well, you have to show some decorum,” he says. “You come into the court in a certain way, I’m going to call you on it.”

Now that Denver is on his docket, you’ll see some strange Colorado cases. And we’ve got plenty of them.
