A 17-year-old from Golden was rescued from a ledge inside an abandoned mine shaft near his home tonight, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.
The boy, who was not named but described as a student at Golden High School, was hiking with a friend when they went about 100 feet down the mine shaft at about 6 p.m.
One teen got out on his own, but the other got stuck when the part of the ledge gave way, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said.
The Colorado School of Mines rescue team pulled the boy out at about 8:30 p.m. He was unhurt, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
