FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Hurricane Rina intensified Monday morning into a category 1 system with sustained winds of 75 mph.

The sixth hurricane the season was about 195 miles southwest of Grand Cayman and expected to arrive near Mexico’s Yucatan on Thursday. It is forecast to approach western Cuba on Saturday. From there, the models are spread as to whether Rina might continue northeast toward Florida’s west coast or turn southeast, back toward the Caribbean.
